Input File Specifications

Files sent to Target America for screening need to be in one of the following formats:

  • ASCII text file with fixed field widths
  • Comma-separated file with carriage return at the end of each record
  • Excel
  • DBF file

Include: Field names or column headers to identify data. A unique id number should be sent with each record for future importing capabilities. Each file be should be named.
Example: Donor Database, 2003 Patient File, Membership Lists.

Complete the File Submission Form and attach your file, if it is under 3 MB. Files that exceed 3MB can be sent to our ftp site. Email us at data@tgtam.com and we will respond with login information for the ftp site.

Client defined data (Optional)
10 fields of client defined information, up to 30 characters in length, can be provided. This is used for better segmenting and modeling by your organization. Below are 10 suggested fields to use as a guide. Other fields commonly included are spouse name, employer, grad year, membership type, or any specific field you normally use for sorting.
Field 1: Account number from database
Field 2: ID code (alum, patient, friend, etc.)
Field 3: First Gift Date
Field 4: Last Gift Date
Field 5: Largest Gift Date or Appeal Code
Field 6: Largest Gift Amount
Field 7: Total Giving Amount
Field 8: Total Number of Gifts
Field 9: Giving Club Level
Field 10: Primary Salutation
